New Hope Club | Nowadays, terms such as idol, girl group, boy band no longer suggest any stereotypes or prejudice. “We don’t need permission to love(Permission)” The recent boy band craze which hit the international music industry by storm, proves the fact that listeners these days do not look down upon these terms which define many ‘younger, mainstream’ artists. Actually, in a world where sincere adoration is rarely to be seen, boy bands which boast a secure fan base hold a special place in the industry – ‘New Hope Club’ is a good example of a band which truly deserves such fandom.
Sometimes, the process of finding an answer to a question tends to be more enlightening than the actual answer itself. By looking at New Hope Club working together and finally agreeing upon the same conclusion, it was easy to guess how familiar the members were with each other. Since their debut 4 years ago, the band has consistently focused on building a tight relationship not only amongst themselves but also with the fans – of course, making music was always at the core of this entire process. The band beamed with pride while jokingly stating how “New Hope Club is so much more than anyone’s everyday pop band”, therefore “everyone should have a go at listening to the music before putting a label on it”. ‘I don't need no medicine(Medicine)’ What defines the band is actually, just ‘hard work over time’. As seen on their YouTube channel which contains over 100 uploads, New Hope Club is known to make covers even while working on their EP. Members cover whatever music they like – everything from contemporary indie to The Beatles, regardless of any genre or style.
So how does New Hope Club define good music? For Blake, “Good music is good music”. George adds that “Good music is when you can feel the artist giving his best for the song”. Reece nods and shouts, “Subjective!”. For them, good music is what’s ultimately loved by the band and of course, the fans. This is why they numerously work on perfecting their harmony, give their all for each performance, and cover songs by other artists to expand their musical spectrum. Such effort built New Hope Club their own identity, while increasing their value as a band. As the band matures by respecting opinions of their own as well as others, “tell me you can feel that love feel that love again(Love again)” listeners join in by responding to such sincerity. To finish off, we’d also like to add some ‘subjective’ love for the band – best of luck for the rest of the world tour, and thank you again for visiting kiwa!
