Sorry to have to shut down the comments, I thought I'd leave it open for awhile in an attempt to allow some who are honestly searching for answers on this subject to be given a chance to inquire and seek some direction. Though as I predicted it has received backlash from the reformed (Calvinistic) community, leading to empty quarrelsome debates (talk about beating a dead horse).
Normally I welcome a diverse opinion, but this subject seems to strike too close to home for some, leading to a more emotional rather than rational debate. So the majority of the commenters are not seeking or open but rather with their minds already made up, have come to simply belittle the other who they believe are wrong, and I won't let my channel be a forum for divisiveness among believers, it makes you look bad and more importantly it makes Christ look bad, who we are supposed to be reflecting upon the world. Granted some discussions were civil, but were not enough to keep me continually weeding out the negative. It's a sad day when you realize the majority of negativity in the comments on a Christian channel is not from anti religion groups or angry atheists, but rather from supposed brothers and sisters in Christ. I see now why most of these similar channels leave all comments disabled, but I'm not there yet as I believe communication can be vital, if not abused.
Though I love my Calvinistic brothers, to me they are misguided and I believe most of the teaching linked to their deterministic systematic theology is heresy, maybe not against what is accepted in orthodox tradition but rather against what scripture has revealed of who God is and how He interacts with His creation. So they'll have to use their own channels to propagate their positions, as the discourse in this thread seemed incapable of staying on a course of civility and love. Comments were open from June 2014 to March 2016, so I gave it a chance.
For new believers, if this monergism/synergism debate is new to you, I'd advise you to tread cautiously as you can easily be sucked into a position while you have a very new understanding of scripture. If you can, rather avoid any teaching on either position for awhile till you have read and studied on your own first, before diving into this debate, hopefully giving you a chance not to just be swayed by arguments but rather having gained some wisdom first from God in study and prayer. I as a new believer was drawn into Calvinism early on while my understanding of scripture and it's narrative was very weak, and it was a while till I found my way out from under it's burden. Most importantly pray for guidance from the Spirit while seeking answers on this. Peace.
