In today's Martial Artists react episode, Gemma and Noah are taking a look at the cinematics of Mortal Kombat 11 and its extension Aftermath, in order to analyze the choregraphy of the fight scenes. The last 3 Mortal Kombat games from Netherealm Studios really set the bar high in terms of story mode in fighting games, and in MK11, they outdid themselves in terms of cinematography and motion capture. Is Liu Kang famous bicycle kick realistic? Do the characters move at the right speed? Can monk zombies fight like real shaolin?
The first 3 fights are from the DLC Aftermath, an alternate timeline where we follow Shang Tsung, Sindel and Shao Kahn as they rewrite the original game's timeline.
The first fight features Shang Tsung, who has allied with Fujin and Nightwolf to counter Kronika's plan, but they are ambushed by Geras and the Cyber Lin Kuei.
The second fight shows Shao Kahn's ship abording Kitana's on the sea of blood. Aided by Sindel, they both personally take on Kotal and Jade.
The third fight features Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung and Sindel, as they arrive at the Hourglass to confront Kronika, although she is still protected by the revenant versions of Jade, Kitana and Kung Lao.
The next fights are part of the main game's storyline. The fourth cutscene shows the Special Forces, led by Sonya and Cassie Cage, who are attacking Shinnok's Bone Temple in Outworld, where they face a few revenant version of past heroes such as Kitana, Jade and Kabal.
The fifth cutscene, we follow Shao Kahn, as he's been sent to the future, where he realizes Kotal Kahn has taken his throne. Kotal offers his help, but Shao Kahn just wants to kill this usurper right here, right now.
The sixth cutscene shows Cassie Cage assaulting Black Dragon's lair, to free her mother Sonya from the hands of Kano and his past-self.
In the seventh cutscene, Jax ends up on Shang Tsung's island ruin, where the monks that lived there have turned into zombies and attacks him.
In the eighth cutscene, Raiden and all his allies attack Kronika's keep, resulting in a huge battle featuring most of MK11's heroes.
In the ninth and finale cutscene, Liu Kang, who has fused with Raiden to become a Fire God, faces down the last of Kronika's minions, before stopping her once and for all.
