Cities in the Philippines have struggled for years to appreciate the coastlines and oceans that the country is famous for, thanks to informal settlements crowding the coastlines and normal growing pains suffered by most developing nations.
But that could be about to change in Davao City, as a brand new 18.5 kilometre road is under construction along the coastline, on a 30 metre wide patch of reclaimed land just offshore. The 4 lane road has footpaths, bike lanes, and parks, and promises to reconnect Davao with its Gulf.
I took a look at the Coastal Road from a few public places (the road is closed to access for now). I also looked at the city's coastal communities.
